Sustainability

Environmentally sensitive manufacturing is how we do business.

Foaming

We use VPF technology, the method of foam-making which requires no Auxiliary Blowing Agents.

Facilities

Our facilities are equipped with the latest technologies to help limit our environmental impact.

Transport

By compressing our foam, we’ve lowered our transport-related emissions.

Recycling

No foam waste goes to landfill. Our foam scraps are rebonded and recycled into carpet underlay.

Variable Pressure Foam Technology (VPF)

Joyce foams are made with VPF technology, which requires no Auxiliary Blowing Agents (such as Methylene Chloride) and produces virtually no VOCs. This process doesn’t use or emit additional CO₂, captures all emissions and exceeds EPA requirements.

Refer to our Site Emissions Monitoring Data for additional details.

VPF technology allows us to produce foams with more consistent* compression set, porosity and resilience levels (compared to conventional, non-VPF, open cell foams).

*Using the relevant AS2282 tests, our products were consistently 17% more porous and resilient in comparison to conventional foams.

Joyce Solar Power

Investing in Renewable Energy

We are constantly working to reduce our reliance on traditional energy sources. Low-energy lighting has been installed at all Joyce sites and solar panels at our Victorian site generate enough power to drive our entire moulded foam line.

Our overall Scope 2 emissions (indirect emissions from Joyce Foam's operations) were reduced by 451,713 kg of CO₂ equivalents in 2021-2022. We continued to work towards further reductions in our carbon footprint by introducing electric forklifts to our South Australian site in 2023.

Joyce Compression Transport

Lowering Transport Emissions

Since 2005, Joyce has been compressing foam for transport, allowing us to move products using 60% less space.

By reducing our transport requirements and partnering with logistics suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, we are trying to lower our transport-related emissions.

Joyce Recycling

Recycling

Our investments in state-of-the-art technologies have allowed us to reduce scrap rates significantly. Any foam scrap we do produce is 100% recycled and used in carpet underlay.

Any raw material containers and plastic wrappings used in production are also recycled through our supply chain partners.

Australian Bedding Stewardship Council

Joyce is a founding partner of the Australian Bedding Stewardship Council (ABSC), a national social enterprise which diverts waste mattresses from landfill and recovers the components to recycle.

The ABSC, through their Recycle My Mattress product stewardship program, also offers employment opportunities for people who experience barriers entering the open labour market.

Joyce is proud to support a mission that shares our values of sustainability and corporate social responsibility.
